Jakhar tears into AAP regime for diluting Punjab’s stand on SYL

Chandigarh,:  Slamming the Bhagwant Mann regime for diluting Punjab’s entrenched stand over state waters in SYL, the Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar on Saturday said AAP’s ploy to instigate and vitiate Punjab’s peace would not succeed at any cost.

“This is a vile attempt to let emotions run high over this sensitive issue and reap political mileage, Jakhar said while addressing a press conference here earlier this afternoon while saying that the Chief Minister had lost moral authority to govern and must step down as Chief Minister. Led by the State Punjab BJP President, the BJP Core Committee held a meeting earlier and passed a resolution condemning the state stand in SC. Core Committee members then staged a sit-in in front of the CM residence wearing black bands.

Elaborating his charge, Jakhar underlined that the stand of Punjab over this vexed issue has been constant ever since this controversy erupted and there is not even a single drop of water to share – be it Congress government or Akali government, Jakhar added that AAP is deliberately weakening Punjab’s hold over its own waters by leaving SC with no other option than to order a Survey which they know would have to be conducted by the Centre. This is their strategy to then give a bad name to the Centre.

“By mischievously presenting a weaker case, Punjab Government has succeeded in forcing the Apex Court’s hand to order for a survey which, Jakhar said, AAP knows will have to be undertaken by the Centre thereby dragging the central government into the controversy and show it as opposed to the interests of Punjab. Through this ploy, AAP has severely dented Punjab’s sacred interests for political gains, Jakhar added.

Coming down heavily on ruling party leaders for their double speak inside and outside the Court, Jakhar said while outside these leaders express intent to safeguard state’s water at any cost however away from people inside court these same leaders defy public interest and sentiments to acknowledge their willingness to complete the construction.

Making an appeal to all Punjabis to not let AAP’s vile motives succeed, Jakhar assured them that no one can ever stake a claim over Punjab’s waters. Punjab has already given its most precious resource for filling up national food stocks and now we have not even a drop to share.
Asking all Punjabis to remain alert and vigilant, the Senior Punjab leader said that people are just waiting for a chance to teach AAP a lesson. The people have realised their mistake which was made in 2022 by voting for AAP, Jakhar said.
