2018_3$largeimg06_Tuesday_2018_015700692New Delhi : The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha today witnessed sloganeering by members over the PNB scam and other issues, including NDA ally TDP demanding special package for Andhra Pradesh, forcing adjournment for the day after multiple disruptions. The two Houses had reassembled after recess to conduct the second half of the Budget session.

Diamantaires Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi, accused of duping the PNB of Rs 12,700 crore, have fled the country and the CBI is looking into the matter.

The Lok Sabha witnessed uproarious scenes with Congress, TDP,  TRS and AIADMK members trooping into the well of the House.

Noisy protests disrupted  Question Hour, prompting Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to adjourn the House till noon. As the House reassembled, Congress members trooped into the well again, even as TMC members sought to know about the whereabouts of ‘chhota Modi’. TDP members demanded a special package for Andhra, while TRS MPs sought higher reservation quota in Telangana.

Amid Opposition protest, Mahajan said she had received the resignation letter of Neiphiu Rio from the Lok Sabha following the Nagaland Assembly election results. She then adjourned the House for the day.

The Rajya Sabha too witnessed repeated adjournments in the morning session after  Opposition parties created a ruckus over the PNB scam and constitution of the Cauvery Water Management Board. Sloganeering in the well of the House resulted in adjournment , first for 10 minutes and then till 2 pm.

While the TMC wanted action against Nirav, the AIADMK and the DMK sought implementation of the court order on the constitution of Caurvey board.

Despite assurance to members that discussions on issues raised by members would be allowed under appropriate rules, Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu adjourned the proceedings for 10 minutes and then till 2 pm when similar scenes were repeated as the House reassembled.

An agitated Naidu asked: “Are you in Parliament or somewhere else?” He did  persuade the members to return to their seats, but only for a short while.

Debate bank scam first, govt told

Opposition parties demanded a debate on PNB fraud in the Lok Sabha, telling the government that other matters could wait. At a meeting of the Lok Sabha’s business advisory committee, chaired by the Speaker, representatives of the Congress, TMC and BJD insisted that the debate be taken up at 12 noon for four hours.
