Kabaddi Star with Humble Background Honored by Patna DM

kabaddiPatna: Patna District Magistrate (DM) Sanjay Agrawal on Thursday honored Shamaa Parveen, a member of the Indian team that won the gold medal at the Asian Kabaddi Championship held last week in Gorgan, Iran.Shamaa played with her team mates that included Abhilasha Mhatre (captain), Kanchan Jyoti Dixit, Kavita, Manpreet Kaur, Maria Monica, Payal Chaudhari, Priyanka, Priyanka Negi, Randeep Kaur Khera, Ritu, Sakshi Kumari, and Sayali Uday Jadhav.The unassuming Kabaddi player is a resident of Barh in Patna district and is the daughter of Mohammed Ilyas and Farida Khatoon, the owners of a small general store. She is also the student of BA (Parts II) at the N S College in Barh.”A lot of people tried to dissuade me from playing Kabaddi but my father continued to encourage me. He also acted as my trainer. The secretary of the Kabaddi Association Kumar Vijay and Rajiv also encouraged me to follow my dream,” she said.The DM conferred the title of the ‘Ambassador of Inspiration’ to Shamaa and congratulated her on her team’s success in Iran.

“She is a source of inspiration to all girls of India. Girls like her will lead the society and help eradicate social ills like dowry and child marriage from our system,” the DM said adding the district administration will also provide financial and other types of help to Shamaa’s family so they could pull themselves out of their current situation.
