BATHINDA: Bathinda police claimed to have cracked a double-murder mystery with the arrest of a person and is on the lookout for two others involved in the crime.Bathinda resident Narinderpal Kaur and her son Rupinder Singh had gone missing on February 8. While Narinderpal's dead body was found on February 9, Rupinder's was recovered on February 16 from a lake near the thermal plant.

"The police identified three persons in the double murder case and succeeded in arresting one, Surjit Singh, on Sunday. Efforts are on to arrest two others, identified as Gurmeet Singh and Jagjit Singh, both from Bathinda," said Bathinda SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar.Rupinder, a retired food supplies officer, was making handsome earnings through his rented shops. According to the SSP, the accused went to Rupinder's place on February 8 and killed him and his mother before grabbing gold and money from the house. Before leaving, they stuffed the bodies in Rupinder's car and dumped them in the lake. After this, they took the car to Tarn Taran and abandoning it there before returning by a bus to mislead the police.

The SSP said that in his confession to police, Surjit revealed that since his shop was just opposite to that of Rupinder's residence, he was well aware of the victim's earnings and decided to make easy money by robbing him. He hatched a plan and took his friends into confidence. So far, police have recovered Rupinder's wallet and watch only from Surjit.
